I’ve never played one of the earlier Deus Ex games, so my background story in the series are a little short. But when i started the campaign in Mankind Divided something brilliant showed up, “Do you want to see a recap video?”
That feature is something every videogame franchise should have, and now i’m on track with the storyline.
My review on Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is based on my gameplay experience with the game, controls, graphics and the understatement of the story. Is Deus Ex: Mankind Divided fun to play for someone who’s not familiar with the series? Let’s find out
Besides the main campaign, you also got other stories to play as well. First mission got me blown away regarding graphics, the minor flaws that animations and voiceovers not maching, didn’t seem to bother me. But then the first mission was over and after a long intro video, we could throw ourself into the world in Prague. Honestly i had no idea what the story behind all of what happened. Because after the first mission the story got clumsy and rushed to a weird finish.
All the characters you meet do not appeal to me any way at all, besides that they come back later with weird choices.
The story itself it’s very short as well. In my opinion should a game like this hold at least 40 hours gameplay. But here i was finished in around 20 hours.
Every side mission i found by accident by talking to random citizens was kinda easy to play through. But i still haven’t found them all.
You can choose from a lot of different set ups for the controls in the game. If you’re a FPS player then you can use those settings. I’ve just got one big issue with the controls, and that’s the movement and animations was kinda “hard”. And by that i mean if you’re familiar with other shooters like Battlefield, Call of Duty and so on, the movement are fluid and fast. But in Deus Ex. Mankind Divided the movement was unrealistic and static.
The fighting system was fun in the beginning, but that lasted after i finished the first mission. It got boring and i felt i’ve seen everything.
On the other hand, some of the puzzles in the game was very fun to explore on. Figuring out how to get places and hacking doors and so on. Same goes if you go non-lethal and stealth, here lays most of the fun in the game. Despite the lagging and terms of quality for a number of reasons.
The cinematics in the game are gorgeous to look at, and same goes with the environment.
Characters and animations in another hand belongs to next generation, or even back to the PS2 era. Most of the game felt unpolished and rushed by the developers.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided looks like a good game, and it is at some points. But it could have been more and better. If the developers had more time with the game to polish it, used more time on the story and gameplay. Then i’ve would give this game a better review. But sadly the next Deus Ex did not live up to the expectations. Especially for those who aren’t familiar with the franchise.
