Details + Hands-on impression
I must admit that I don’t have a lot of experience with Dishonored since they released the first game on the PlayStation 3. Me personally found the gameplay was a little too complicated for me at the time, and didn’t found out all the various ways to play this genre.
But Arkane Studio have now announced a new standalone expansion called Dishonored: Death of the Outsider. Just to be clear, you do not have to own a copy of either Dishonored or Dishonored 2. This is exactly the same as this month PlayStation Plus game Assassin’s Creed: Freedom Cry, a standalone game with it’s own story.
Some key features from the developers
The Ultimate Supernatural Assassin
Stay in the shadows or step into the daylight to take on all foes – the choice is yours. Equipped with a unique set of supernatural abilities, gadgets, and weapons, you can approach each situation in your own way. Use your abilities and skills to sneak through environments unseen or brutally eliminate all opposition in your way.
The Greatest Assassination
Killing the Outsider won’t be easy. You’ll have to journey deep into the seedy underbelly of Karnaca, where you’ll unravel some the city’s lost secrets. Along the way you’ll infiltrate underground fight clubs and black magic cults, and retrieve ancient artifacts in a thrilling bank heist mission that sets the table for your greatest mission ever.
The Definitive Targets
As you hunt down The Outsider, face off against a new cast of enemies along the way. Armed with your weapons, gadgets and abilities, take down deadly foes such as the immortal Envisioned, the relentless Sisters of the Oracular Order and the new Clockwork Soldiers. Up the ante by accepting Contracts to find and eliminate optional targets throughout your mission.
Replay Your Way
Unleash further potential for creative chaos by replaying with some of the signature powers from Dishonored 2 in the Original Game Plus (OG+) mode.
I might have been a good or bad person to attend our hands on session with this expansion, as I’ve got little experience with the game. But then again it gives a fresh look at the game for someone else just like me who haven’t played the franchise.
So the demo we got play at Gamescom put us straight into a cutscene to fill us in on what has happened and what we were doing. Without spoiling much of the story let’s begin after the cutscene, our objective was to either get through a locked gate or get over an even larger canyon. (Which I found out after I’d died three times, needed to jump over a ledge)
What I could understand there was a few familiar weapons and skills even powers that you might have seen in Dishonored 2, but there was a few new ones as well.
Even though I didn’t understand what I did or what I was suppose to do at the limited time I got to play Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, I must say that this expansion is visually stunning. Controls feels light and fantastic to play and as previous Dishonored games gives you lots of possibilities on how to approach your target or mission. If you are fan of this series or a newcomer you might like this standalone expansion.
Dishonored: Death of the Outsider will release on the PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One 15, September 2017.
