Swedish indie developer Joakim ‘Konjak’ Sandberg has been working on Iconoclasts since 2009 and yesterday he announced a release date.
Along with a a gorgeous announcement trailer featuring Sandberg’s hi-fidelity pixel art and an intriguing assembly of characters, the game’s release date was made public in a tweet yesterday. After nearly 9 years of development, Iconoclasts will release on the 23rd of January 2018 on PC, PS4 and PS Vita.
Iconoclasts is published by Bifrost Entertainment, a publisher and developer based in Oslo, Norway.

Iconoclasts follows its protagonist Robin – a mechanic in a world where her hobby is illegal – in her struggle against a theocratic authority. The game is a metroidvania-style adventure with puzzles revolving around Robin’s mechanical skill and bombastic boss battles. I actually tried a version of the game at Lillestrøm SpillExpo in 2015 and remember it fondly, so I am excited for these news.
Interestingly, Iconoclasts is actually based on a 2007 project called Ivory Springs which is available for free on Sandberg’s website.
