With lots of different video game events canceled due to COVID-19, a lot of companies are revealing their new products in other fashions. Yesterday PlayStation revealed the design of their new controller to PlayStation 5 which is told be on schedule for release this holiday (still waiting on that delay though). But let’s talk about the new controller.
“DualSense marks a radical departure from our previous controller offerings and captures just how strongly we feel about making a generational leap with PS5. The new controller, along with the many innovative features in PS5, will be transformative for games – continuing our mission at PlayStation to push the boundaries of play, now and in the future. To the PlayStation community, I truly want to thank you for sharing this exciting journey with us as we head toward PS5’s launch in Holiday 2020. We look forward to sharing more information about PS5, including the console design, in the coming months.” – Jim Ryan, President & CEO, Sony Interactive Entertainment
The DualSense will come with the new Tempest 3D Audio Tech (yes there will be a jack input for your headset) adaptive triggers into the L2 and R2, haptic feedback to provide even more immersion feeling through gameplay, and of course a new “frame” on the controller more like the Xbox One controller. The Share button is replaced with a “Create” button, but the details on this one haven’t been revealed just yet. And of course the new two-colored design.
It didn’t take long before the people took to Twitter and Reddit to reimagine the color design on the controllers, and do you know what? I actually want one of those redesigns, so the possibilities Sony has when it comes to special editions of controllers are endless.
Here are some examples;
