PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds third map is coming

It’s been so long since PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds mentioned anything about its third map. A recent post from the developer finally gave us a release window for when players can expect the next map to launch.

According to the developer, the third map is scheduled to launch in the first half of 2018 so the end of June at the latest. If nothing’s changed, this will be the previously detailed map set on an island in the Adriatic Sea, which will span 8 square kilometers and include forests in the north, coastal beaches in the south, and a snowy mountain range cutting across the center.

The developers explained that the promised developer roadmap will arrive next month, when “the team will reveal what you can expect from us in the first half of 2018 in terms of our development and new content plans which, by the way, include a new map.” Hopefully Xbox One players will also get an idea of when they can expect the game’s second map, the desert-set Miramar, to come to their console, which already has 4 million players.

Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene previously stated that the development team’s main goal for 2018 is making PUBG “crash-free,” but it sounds like the insane amount of cheaters and the team’s efforts to deal with them are really taking a toll on the development process.

The rest of the post focused on the team’s efforts to introduce ping-based matchmaking, as well as several fixes in the works for the next update.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is available on PC and Xbox One.
