It’s been roughly two months since I played the previous episode of The Council, but a few days ago I could finally play the third installment. As with the review of the second episode, this part will focus on the story, as the other sections has been covered by the review of the first episode.
Story
Already at the beginning of the episode, there’s obvious that not everything is normal on this island. Louis meets with an old acquaintance who doesn’t recognize him and is instantly in the danger of getting shot.
For my part, the episode soon got a bit boring with a lot of talking. Although this is not a bad thing in itself, I have yet to understand what the game is trying to tell me. Sure, I might be weird, but I don’t trust anyone except a character who disappeared during the first episode, and for my part that takes away a lot of the game. Another thing I found lacking in this episode is the fact that none of my previous actions seems to have consequences. Not once an NPC mentioned something I had done previously, and I’m starting to fear that this game will fall for the “Telltale-trap” of having only the illusion of choice.
Luckily the episode ends rather well, both when it comes to the story picking up, but also with some cool gameplay sessions. Once again I find myself waiting for the next episode, as I feel like the story can get really awesome, if only I could understand what the hell is happening.

Verdict
Let me first say that part of me really wants to love this game, it has lots of great features – almost. There’s an unprecedented potential in the game that I hope break through in the upcoming episode. Unfortunately, it’s not quite there this time around. By all means, the game is good, it just lacks that little extra. If you do enjoy these kinds of games (Life is Strange, the Telltale-games) there’s no reason why you shouldn’t give this a go.
Overall
7/10Pros
- Some parts of the gameplay are excellent
- The developers sure know how to make cliffhangers
Cons
- Some bugs
- Choices don’t seem to have much consequence after all
