Ever since my review of Resident Evil Biohazard, I truly fell in love with the Resident Evil video game series. I’ve tried previous titles such as Resident Evil 6, and barely touched a few titles that were released for the PlayStation and PlayStation 2. I can now for sure be proud of myself for not only playing through this horror game once, but twice. The original and this remake.
It’s over 20 years since the original first released back in 1998, and now we can relive a true masterpiece of the horror genre of video games. Capcom have remade Resident Evil 2 from the very ground up with modern graphics, enhanced gameplay and new additions to the story.
I must say that the Resident Evil series truly masters bringing the little girl inside of me out into the world. Not only do I scream during almost every jumpscare, but I also managed to scare the shit out of my Golden Retriever and girlfriend as well. I also think my neighbor got a heart attack, the ambulance is still there. Nonetheless, my neighbor is fine, I said hi to him yesterday, same can I say about the spooky, horror game Resident Evil 2. The story is as strong as the original with a small tweak with your second run because you can play as both Leon and Claire. Just be sure to click on ‘New game2’ and not ‘New game’. It’s the same story but from different perspectives.
The creepy and spooky atmosphere is insanely good and spot-on, and it’s easy to say that both the sound-design and graphics is a feast for your ears and eyes. I would say this remake is one of the best remakes to this date, compared to the original and how much they actually managed to keep from the original title. Gunplay & controls are easy to learn and I didn’t encounter any issues with that, the only annoying thing (that isn’t a bad thing, just creeping me even more) is that all of your resources such as ammo and healing are limited, and the zombies aren’t easily killed either. So I did encounter a lot of interesting scenarios, were I almost every single time wet my pants.
I didn’t really find lots of negative things to say about this remake of Resident Evil 2. The biggest issue isn’t something Capcom can fix either, as I think my PlayStation 4 is singing his last song perse. My PlayStation 4 sounds like it’s going to lift off every time I play a new game that has awesome graphics etc nowadays. But, back to the relevant stuff that actually impacts this title.
It’s not a really bad thing, but with more work, the story and the second run of gameplay could have been more interesting as we could play through the game with two different characters. Many of the puzzles, enemies and other small details were exactly the same during my first run. I feel like Capcom missed a great opportunity to make a great game even greater.

Remake/Remastered Score 9.5
Besides the very few issues, I had with Resident Evil 2, Capcom yet again proves they are the masters of creating creepy horror games. Not only that, but they also managed to create one of the best remakes to this date as well with incredible graphics and sound design.
