Earlier I reviewed Turtle Beach Ear Force Stealth 300, and I was quite surprised by how good it was. And Recon 70 also falls into the “low budget headset” category as well.
The big question is, is it any good for a low budget headset for a hardcore/casual gamer?
The thing that really impressed me, same as with the Stealth 300 is the design. You would think that the design would be pretty standard and not a feast for your eyes. As the main focus might have been focusing using their development money on the material itself. But no, the design is actually pretty slick, I got the PlayStation 4 version or aka the blue one. You can pretty much use this headset crossplatform (except PC, as you’ll need an adapter as this headset uses 3.5mm jack entry), the only difference is the colors. You’ll also get the noticeable “flip up to mute” microphone which surprisingly holds on to the quality and doesn’t break that easy.
There is a small setback when it comes to the sound by using the 3.5mm jack entry. It isn’t that hard to create a decent enough sound system in headset by creating headset with this function nor does it cost a lot of money (hence the low budget category maybe?). This isn’t a good or a bad thing, but it sure will limit the sound experience.
As the sound experience might have been a small let down, sadly there are a few other things that didn’t hit the mark. As the design is slick and pretty to look at, the comfort is another story. I’d like to think that I got “regular” ears, and I would think that the headset would fit perfectly. But I struggle to find a comfortable position, which results in discomfort and lots of heat & sweat in long play sessions. This shouldn’t be a problem regardless if your a minor or an adult.
Noise Reduction 7
Turtle Beach Recon 70 might not be for the hardcore gamer who depends on amazing sound system and comfort for long play sessions. But this headset is perfect for the casual or minor gamer who wants a great gaming headset on console for a low price. As for now, this is the greatest gaming headset in this price range. But if you want a “professional” gaming headset, you might want to invest a bit more into your budget.

- Great headset within price range
- Comfort (adult)
- Sound is limited because of the 3.5mm jack
