Gigantosaurus The Game – Review

A game perfect for kids in the younger ages. This game even brought back memories to old games like Spyro making this game something I believe kids might enjoy.

Name: Gigantosaurus The Game
Developer: WildSphere
Publisher: Outright Games LTD.
Released: 27.03.2020
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch

Story

You take control over the four pals: Tiny, Mazu, Rocky and Bill and have to use their powers to help the inhabitants get tasks done, while also trying to help Gigantosaurus who’s upset because his volcano has a meteor plugged into it.
To be honest, I didn’t put all my effort into understanding what was going on in the game story-wise. I believe that the players who’ll play this game, either know the franchise beforehand or will find the story “good enough” to enjoy it. The story was probably a bit too simple for me to find it enjoyable.

Graphics

The style is obviously designed to make the kids impressed with happy colors and high contrasts. The game does not seek to be astonishing graphically, but it does the job setting the tone for the game.

The game is utilizing the “happy”-palette to entice the senses of the targeted audience. Which the game, in my opinion, does excellently without compromising with the overall look of the game. The graphics look very well planned and even matches what little I have seen of the Gigantosaurus show.

Gameplay

The game is obviously targeted for young children, I would guess age 5-11. The game has two different difficulty settings. The Easy-mode makes platforms solid and camera-angle fixed, you also get a smoke trail that you can follow to reach each goal. Normal mode is a bit more challenging and without a lot of the aid. However, I believe that the game actually manages to be just enough of a challenge to be entertaining without being so hard that it’s not fun.

The platforming, racing, and puzzles actually manage to find the sweet spot between being challenging as well as easy enough for young children to play. The two difficulty options also help to make the game more fun for the youngest players.

Controls

I had quite a few issues using the mouse and keyboard option. Even the in-game tooltips were displaying buttons from an Xbox One Controller. In the end, I had a lot more enjoyable experience with the controller.

A controller is, in my opinion, mandatory for this game. However, this is probably a matter of taste. The score is based on excellent controller controls and poor controls on keyboard and mouse.
7/10

Replay Value

This game is probably going to be a success with the targeted audience. However, a lot of the tasks are repetitive, and I doubt that the game will be finished more than once.

The game is entertaining during its initial run-through. I doubt that the game will be played through more than once.

Verdict

All employees of game stores and parents should know about this game. The only blocker for Norwegian parents would be that the game is in English. However, I believe that the game is still playable because of the visual cues the game provides. The game is entertaining, non-violent and has the perfect balance when it comes to difficulty.
