Drinkbox studios, the Toronto-based studio behind titles like Tales from Space: About a Blob, Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack and Guacamelee! have announced a sequel to their 2013 hit Guacamelee! to be released “soon-ish” which seems to mean some time in the summer of 2018.
The original Guacamelee! is a stylish and colorful metroidvania starring luchador Juan Aguacate set in Mexico. The game was praised for its humor and art and won awards for “Excellence in visual arts” at IGF 2013 and “Best of 2013: Playstation Vita” from IGN among others.
According to Drinkbox, Guacamelee 2 will pick up the story of its predecessor 7 years later when Juan encounters a new “evil menace that threatens to destroy not only Mexico, but time and space itself.” It promises more colorful, stylish and action packed gameplay in new levels as well as 4 player local co-op, 300% more chickens and 99% less memes.
The trailer (below) definitely fulfills the promise of 300% more chickens as well as a good dose of the humor and creative platforming from the first game.
