Wordhunters is a party game that allows people to test their word-plays. You can challenge up to five friends to take on in a series of word games. Already here I had a problem, I live alone, and rarely have visitors over. But fortune favors the brave and I somehow got a visit, and used the opportunity to try out some rounds with Wordhunters!

Graphics

Wordhunters doesn’t feature the most amazing of graphics. However, it works well for its purpose. Obviously, I don’t need Red Dead Redemption 2-graphics when you’re mostly busy looking at your smart device. On your smart device, things are looking rather clean and simple, which is preferable.

Amy the Aviator features as a guide/commentator, and she works fine. She’s not the most interesting of characters,  The sound design, in general, is pretty good. With the background music being rather chill, and not taking too much attention away from the gameplay.

Gameplay

As you probably have understood, Wordhunters focuses a lot on having friends over and playing this as a party game. There is a single-player training mode, but unfortunately, it features less than exciting gameplay. And let’s be honest, it’s not the most complicated gameplay ever, so training is hardly needed.

So, what does the game offer? Well, it offers some word games, but regrettably, none of them were particularly fun. It simply doesn’t work as a party game, at least not for me and my friend. It never felt like a competition, and soon we were both bored and had to call it quits. I mean, yes. The game offers 15 different word games, but we only found maybe three or four good enough to retry, the rest was too boring.

Controls

With the game being controlled with an app, the controls section is a bit weird to review. Playing the game via a Huawei P20 Pro I had no issues with lag, while my friend who played with an older Samsung (I think an A7) actually had some performance issues with lag when she entered words.

The controlling on the mobile itself is rather straightforward though if you’ve played like Ruzzle or any other word-finding games on your smart device you’ll get the same experience with the Wordhunters app. Mostly using dragging features to select word/letters is easy enough and apart from my friend’s lagging I can’t really complain about it. I do wonder why she had a problem and not I, the app doesn’t seem that heavy. Please feel free to comment below with your experiences if you’ve played the game yourself!

Replay Value

I’m gonna be honest here, I haven’t been able to play the game more than that once with my friend. And more honestly, I don’t need to play the game more. It’s quite the bore and doesn’t really offer anything after a few rounds. As I mentioned earlier the game features 15 different word games, but none of them are very fun. On top of that take the fact you need to play with someone visiting, and not online with you sitting in different places, and the game takes too much effort and offers too little to play more than what I have.

Verdic

Unfortunately, Wordhunters is boring and doesn’t offer anything you wouldn’t get from just having an app. Well, you do get a big screen to show scores, but otherwise, it’s pretty much nothing. The lack of online multiplayer gives the game quite a minus in my book, as I really don’t have that many friends over to play. And you know, when I do have friends over, I’ll suggest pretty much any other game than this, it’s simply too boring.
