Drinkbox studios, the Toronto-based studio behind titles like Tales from Space: About a Blob, Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack and  Guacamelee! have announced a sequel to their 2013 hit Guacamelee!  to be released «soon-ish» which seems to mean some time in the summer of 2018.

The original Guacamelee! is a stylish and colorful metroidvania starring luchador Juan Aguacate set in Mexico. The game was praised for its humor and art and won awards for «Excellence in visual arts» at IGF 2013 and «Best of 2013: Playstation Vita» from IGN among others.

According to Drinkbox, Guacamelee 2 will pick up the story of its predecessor 7 years later when Juan encounters a new «evil menace that threatens to destroy not only Mexico, but time and space itself.» It promises more colorful, stylish and action packed gameplay in new levels as well as 4 player local co-op, 300% more chickens and 99% less memes.

The trailer (below) definitely fulfills the promise of 300% more chickens as well as a good dose of the humor and creative platforming from the first game.

The procedurally generated cave exploration of Spelunky returns with a new main character in Spelunky 2.

Almost a decade after the original release of Spelunky in 2008, developer Derek Yu of Mossmouth Games returns with Spelunky 2. The sequel to the critically acclaimed roguelike was announced with a reveal trailer at Sony’s Playstation Showcase at Paris Games Week today. Obviously it was first announced for the PS4, but Derek Yu has since confirmed that it will be coming to steam as well on his twitter.

The trailer does not reveal much about the gameplay of Spelunky 2, but it does reveal one important fact: the main character appears to be the child of Spelunky’s protagonist. There is also cameo appearances of various characters from the first game as well as the infamous eggplant.

Otherwise, not much is known and a release date has not been specified beyond the game being «currently in development.»

Rogue Trooper Redux – Review

1

Name: Rogue Trooper Redux
Developer: Rebellion
Publisher: Rebellion
Platform:  PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch
Released: 17 October 2017 (Europe)

A copy of this game was provided from publisher for review purpose

The last couple of days I have been playing an old game in a new skin. Like many other popular titles from back in the day this game was maybe not so well known, at least I had never played or even heard of it before I got asked to review it this week. Rogue Trooper was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 2 and Xbox on 21, April 2006.

STORY

The game is based of a 80s comic character called Rogue. He lives in a world called Nu-Earth and fights in a long lasting war between the Norts and Southers. You play as Rogue who is a GI: Genetic Infantryman, a weird looking blue guy running around bare chested and genetically manipulated to withstand the harsh conditions on Nu-Earth caused by the many decades of war.  The story is pretty vague but you start the game fighting alongside your fellow blue squad mates and under the starting missions you lose some of those key comrades but each time you gain their special ability by inserting their bio chip in to your own arsenal. Rogue goes on alone to get revenge over his fallen buddies as the same time they are helping him progress through the missions with their added abilities. It’s a pretty cool concept and was groundbreaking at the time.

GRAPHICS

The game is 12 years old and this shows in the graphics but is now remastered and comes in high definition this time, but the details and animations are still very old and is not very nice to look at. With being used to the standards of today this gets annoying very fast.

The design of the world and color setting is very dull and gray with a lot of brown colors that does little to encourage exploration of the levels. But to be fair this was not that bad when it released 12 years ago.

GAMEPLAY

The game play is one of the redeeming qualities of this game. The game has a fairly good cover system and that is pretty much a must have in today’s titles. Rogue’s abilities are varied and fun to use with many different and unusual ideas that work really well in the game. Like the holographic decoy you can distract enemies with or the handy auto aiming that Gunnar provides. You can also craft everything you need from adding Bagman to your backpack and Helm opens door and hacks computers.  A good assortment of grenades and explosive devices makes sure you never run out of ways to kill the enemy.

In addition there are also heavy machine guns, cannons and mortars spread across the levels  to take out drop ships and heavy enemies. If you want to play with your friends the game features co op and versus play for a maximum of four players.

7/10

CONTROLS

The controls feels a little off, but for its time it was snappy had a good feeling to it, surprisingly good actually for such an old game, not the precision you get in games today, but still good enough. The menus are ok and changing weapons or using your abilities can be a little tedious but works ok.

7/10

REPLAY VALUE

The replay value of this game is, at least at the moment, very limited. There is an online part of the game but i have not had a chance to test it out simply because no sessions could be found. i have no idea how many currently are playing this and chances are that will not change anytime soon due to this being a title not many people have heard about. you also got your basic horde mode in «Stronghold». You hold your ground against hordes of enemies until you run out of enemies or die. The second game mode is called «Progressiv». In this mode you progress through levels with limited number of lives and a timer counting down. Both modes features different power ups and a freedom to choose your load out.

Halloween possesses World of Tanks

0

This Halloween strange things are invading the World of Tanks battlefields on PC and consoles. From the 27th of October the ghoulish tank Leviathan from the underworld is trying to besiege the world of the living in the PC version. While on consoles monsters mash as tanks as they arise from the grave.

Leviathan, ruler of the afterlife, has grown tired of its underworld dwelling and now seeks to conquer the world above, all in an attempt to expand its evil empire. Standing in the way are two multi-turreted event tanks: long-range sniper Franken and thick-skinned Stein. Players will find both of these tanks in their garage from 27th October, at 05:00 UTC.

In the console version, the much-loved Monster Tank lineup from previous events will be resurrected from 27th October, through 1st November. This includes two new additions: the Höllenlund leKpz M 41 90 mm and Dragon Type 62.
