Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden the newest IP from Funcom, had their own booth at Gamescom this year. I was one of the lucky ones who got access to a behind closed doors hands-on session to test a small fragment of the game.

After an unlucky startup issues (which is pretty much normal) I didn’t have any sound during my playthrough. I did however get sounds afterwards. The very first thing I reacted to, was the depth in the visuals. If you are familiar with the XCOM series youˋll now what Iˋm talking about. (You see your character from above, and have a feature by zooming the camera in/out and a feature that allows you to move the camera around your character as well).

The gameplay is a turn based strategy game with gorgeous graphics that really puts you in the right mood. Each character has their own set of abilities, and each character can either move and/or use an ability to times each turn. I tried to play the game on hard included with a mode called casais mode, which means if the character dies, it’s a permanent death of that character.
It was a massacre!, so my next shoot at this went on normal without the casais mode. Even there the game is challenging. You do have an option to heal your characters for a limited time of turns if they die, but yet still challenging. My overall experience was a blast, and I can’t wait to see what more Funcom has in store!
You can get early access to the game, and play a small fragment of this title. To do so, youˋll need to pre-order the game. Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden will launch on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on 4th of December 2018.
