The Crew 2 expands on its predecessor with adding planes, bikes, off-roading, and boats. The map is more complete. There’s generally more stuff to do. Will this take the game into perfection?
“Take on the American motorsports scene as you explore and dominate the land, air, and sea across the entire USA. With a wide variety of cars, bikes, boats, and planes, compete in a broad range of driving disciplines.”
– About the game
The Crew 2 is developed by Ivory Tower and published by Ubisoft. It is the follow-up to The Crew, which scored 61 on Metacritic. Hopefully, all these new things to do can make the game climb into a better score!
The Good
The thing I enjoyed the most in the beta was the PK Rally-stages. Where you’re told where the checkpoint is, but have to find the most effective way there yourself. That meant I didn’t need to only be the quickest, but also the smartest when it came to determining a route! The street racing too was a lot of fun, with pedal-to-the-metal racing, and just a feel of petrol surging around my system.
Another thing great thing about the game is the quantity of vehicles and disciplines to try. As long as it has an engine or has something to do with racing, you can pretty much do it.
The Bad
During my time in the beta, I very rarely took part in boat races. I merely found it a bit boring, and the physics to be too floaty (pardon the pun). I also thought the planes are a bit difficult to steer with a controller, with for example leveling the plane being a pain in the butt.
I did experience some occasional bugs, however none of them were game-breaking (apart from once when my boat spawned on land). There were some graphical bugs too, but based on the fact that this was only a beta, I can excuse that for now.
The Verdict
I’m pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the closed beta. The PK-rallying was amazing and the street racing was loads of fun. The aerobatics-missions were lots of fun too, although with annoying controls. I am definitely looking forward to release and can’t wait to find my way to the next checkpoint!
Closed Beta Score: 8/10
Great! – If you enjoy car/boat/plane racing, this is definitely worth your time!
